Description
Dyer’s Chamomile is a delightful and hardy perennial that loves basking in the sun! It thrives best in well-drained sandy or light soils, but it can also manage in clay soil as long as there’s good drainage. With its cheerful, bright yellow, daisy-like flowers and fragrant, fern-like leaves, this plant is perfect for sunny borders, pots, or creating beautiful naturalized areas in your garden. It usually grows to a height of 0.5 to 1 meter and is quite resilient to cold, making it a great addition to any garden. In Australia, growing Dyer’s Chamomile is a breeze, especially in those sunny, dry spots! The flowers typically bloom from summer through early autumn, and you can easily propagate the plant by sowing seeds in early spring or summer, thinning the seedlings to about 20 to 30 centimeters apart. For the first 12 weeks, a little regular watering goes a long way in helping them establish, after which they become quite drought-tolerant. Plus, if you deadhead the spent flowers, you can enjoy blooms longer, and cutting back the foliage after flowering can spark new growth.
Although Dyer’s Chamomile isn’t used in cooking like some other chamomile varieties, it does have some potential medicinal benefits and is a fantastic option for anyone interested in natural dyeing. Enjoy adding this lovely plant to your garden!
