Description
The Crystal Apple Cucumber is a delightful heirloom variety that hails from Australia, with roots dating back to the early 1900s. These charming cucumbers grow into small, round fruits that are about the size of a golf ball to half a tennis ball. Their creamy white to pale greenish-yellow skin hides a crisp, sweet, and non-bitter delight. These plants love soaking up the sun and thrive in well-drained, nutrient-rich soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8.
You can get started by sowing the seeds 1 to 2 cm deep, either indoors about 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost or outdoors once all frost danger has passed. Give them optimal soil temperatures of 21°C to 25°C, and you’ll see them sprout within 7 to 14 days! To give each plant some room to grow, space them 30 to 90 cm apart, depending on how you’re growing them. They really enjoy climbing a trellis and appreciate consistent moisture to keep them sweet and non-bitter. Plus, regular harvesting helps keep the fruits coming! About 70 to 80 days after sowing, your cucumbers will be ready to pick when they’re a lovely apple size. Enjoy them fresh, pickled, or stuffed for a fun treat!
